Behind the Scenes in Our New Office

Posted by in In the Studio, Our Designs, The Creative Business

New year, new office. We recently moved and one of the first rooms we set up was our office. It’s still very much a work in progress. But we are making progress and working on wedding stationery…so it’s all good.

Our Office 1

Creative Chaos

Well, when you offer over 20 colors of envelopes and cardstock backers for invitations you have to keep them somewhere. If you look closely, you’ll see a few of Justin’s handmade plastic flutes tucked away on the top shelf. He loves to play while he works.

Reuse, Upcycle

We hate to throw something away if we can reuse it. Here coffee cans hold our pencils, bone folders and decorative scissors. Good thing Justin loves coffee, because we have many bits and bobs to keep organized! When I have a little bit more time, I just might cover those with pretty paper printed with our prints and patterns.

The best job ever!

Making invitations and wedding stationery all day is actually so much fun and we love it. My favorite is seeing the color combinations the couples have created finally come together on a finished design. This design above was particularly fun. It’s a silver backer with blush pink, gray and Tiffany blue ink.

Cleaning House

Sometimes to make everything make sense, you have to move it all around.

In the early days of our design studio, Justin came to me and said he wanted to move our bedroom into the other bedroom where our office was because it was quieter. Made sense,  but it didn’t quite address the best use of space in our home. So the next weekend, we moved our bedroom into the old office, the office into the livingroom and the livingroom into our old bedroom…much better.

Our purple sofa (I loved color even back then) didn’t quite fit through the doorway and so became a casualty to the new scheme. Insert a sleeker blue couch, and we were done!

I share this story because we just updated our Imbue You Wedding and Imbue You websites. Things are moved around quite a bit, but the hope is that it will make more sense to you and be a better reflection of what we do.

It’s still a work in progress. But visit us in our new spaces and let us know what you think!

When you are coming up with new ideas, it’s great to be inspired. This is true for wedding design, interior design and just about anything else creative. Looking at wedding blogs for wedding inspiration makes sense. But I also find that looking slightly inside what I want to create can really super charge my creativity.

These are 4 cool places for new design ideas, cool artists and general creativity. I hope they help get your creativity flowing:

scissors paper rock paper inspiration

scissors + paper rock!

For some of the coolest things you can do with paper, scissors + paper rock! is the place. This blog features really talented indie designers. And it showcases everything from paper installation art to intricate papercuts done by hand. As a fan of dimension in paper design, this is a favorite place for me.

Eddie Ross

Proof that great design doesn’t have to be stuffy or out of reach. Eddie Ross’ blog is full of tips for great style on a normal person’s budget, including entertaining, design, and yes, DIY. One of my favorite posts is just Eddie in a Dollar Store picking out beautiful and affordable table decor…great for a wedding. He features amazing inspiration for table setting design, including the first picture on this post.

Mod Podge Rocks!

First off, yes it does! For those of you who have yet to discover this miracle in a bottle, Mod Podge is a non-toxic water based glue and sealer that lets you do creative decoupage with paper and fabric. And for great ideas on what you can decoupage, this site is inspiration heaven.
