Rich Mexico Wedding Color Palette: Red, Brown, Gold and Ivory

Sometimes the designs and formats we’ve created are just a guide.

That was the case when Heather came to us earlier this winter wanting to create invitations for her destination wedding in Mexico. We ended up taking our tile design, turning it into a booklet, and putting some custom touches on it along the way.

For an even more custom look, we created matching invitation and RSVP stamps.

I love her rich palette of red, brown and marigold on ivory paper. It’s also a great color combination for winter weddings, or to communicate warmth or a lavish wedding.

We’re really happy with how it turned out. What do you think?

Natalie Briggs Sexy Handmade Bridal Garters

Posted by in Design Secrets, In the Studio

And now for something sexy! And Australian-based Natalie Briggs – Luxury Handmade Garters are certainly that.

What I love about Natalie’s garters is that there’s a little unexpected surprise on each design. It’s almost a shame that you wear them under your dress.

Champagne Chiffon Bridal Garter with Ivory

“My style is Modern and Sexy with a little vintage twist,” says Natalie. “I love using Ivory satin and French laces in my work. My style is not your typical lace garter, a lot more thought and design goes into my garters, as well as considering comfort for my brides in my designs.”

{Designer Secret} According to Natalie, the key to choosing the right garter is to know your dress fabric and shape, for instance ball gown, slim fit, fish tail, etc. “Some fabrics, like taffeta are quite see through if they are only one layer, so you have to be careful with a dark garter under these dresses,” she says.

“If a bride has a ball gown dress with tulle layers underneath to give it volume, then I would not recommend a lace garter that is beaded as the beads could get caught on the tulle,” Natalie says. “If a bride has a more slim fitting gown, especially around the thighs, then I’d recommend a more slim fitting garter.”

“I’m pretty good at visualizing what colors will go together and which ones will not,” says Natalie. “I think a lot of brides are looking for a professional opinion which is great! If the colors would not work, then I’d suggest maybe using only one or two of the colors instead, which always works out.”

Natalie’s passion for beautiful garters started with her own wedding more than a year ago.

“I couldn’t find a garter I actually liked. They all looked tacky, and as if they were all designed in the 80’s. So I decided I can do a lot better, and that’s how Natalie Briggs – Luxury Handmade Garters was born.”

Y&E Bridal: Ring Pillows with Fashion Sense

Posted by in Design Secrets, In the Studio

For personal, meaningful weddings, details are everything. Today’s Artist Profile and Style Secrets come from Yasuko and Erina, the mother and daughter team behind Y&E Bridal. The beauty of their ring pillows are all in the details.

Yasuko was previously a fashion designer in Japan and wedding seamstress at a high-end bridal shop before forming Y&E Bridal. So it’s no surprise that she makes every item by hand and uses high-quality lace, satin and silk.

{Designer Secret} Choosing Your Ring Pillow Style

When it comes to adding your style to your ring pillow, Erina says you can look beyond your gown or even the color scheme of the wedding. If there is another important element of your wedding that you love, like the design of the cake, the pattern on the china, or the motif on the place cards, then go for it!

“I see a lot of brides either match their pillows to their wedding colors or to their dress. We sell a lot of lace pillows because it is the same kind of lace that is used on their dresses. But I really like it when brides match something small,” Erina says.

“I had a bride who had kind of a woven look to her wedding cake and bought a pillow that looked the same as her cake. I thought that was cute. It doesn’t really matter if it matches anything really as long as it is something the bride loves and it makes her happy looking at it!”

Erina describes the Y&E Bridal style as elegant and girly. But staying “elegant” is sometimes all about keeping the “girly” in check. Many brides ask her if they should add more lace on their designs, to which she answers “There is such a thing as too much lace.”

“I think a wedding is the most successful and beautiful when it is all your own,” Erina says, “and it really shows what you, the couple, is all about.”
