Have you ever seen the television show My Fair Wedding, hosted by wedding expert David Tutera?
I really do love this show. But not for the “show up at your door 3 weeks before your wedding and change everything” premise. I love how David takes themes gone wild and transforms them into elegant affairs that the couple and guests will remember for years to come.
For me, this show is proof that any theme can be made elegant, sophisticated and personal.
Even a Day of the Dead wedding theme, based on the traditional Mexican holiday where people honor dead loved ones. The bride envisioned skulls everywhere, from the centerpieces to the groomsmen’s ties. David toned down the skulls, added red roses and black lace for a more Mexican feel…and voila elegance restored.

The keys to pulling this off are balance and variety. And if you keep these things in mind for your wedding, any theme you choose will be chic.
Let’s take a Vegas wedding theme for example. It’s tempting to think only about cards and dice. But look what happens when you mix in feathers (showgirls, anyone?), new interpretations of card suits, other textures and tons of glamour.
So go for it. Have that pirate theme wedding. Just be sure to mix in some bling with the bandanas.
What’s your wedding theme? And how are you keeping it chic?
